About Us
Our Mission:
Empowering brain injury survivors and their caregivers through peer support programs that foster independence, wellbeing, and long-term community connections.
Our History & Vision
The Olympia Brain Injury Support Group has been providing community-based social support and educational resources to individuals living with brain injuries and their primary support networks for over 30 years. As one of the largest in-person support groups in Washington State, we serve individuals across Thurston, Mason and Lewis Counties. We offer a regular monthly in-person support group meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at the Lacey Senior Center. Our meetings offer participants an opportunity to connect with others who are walking a similar path. This connection is facilitated by educational topics and interactive discussions, small group discussions, and a summer picnic and holiday party.
The goal and vision of the Olympia TBI Support is to expand our offerings to more community-based activities and events where TBI survivors and family members can learn to navigate life after brain injury. Our vision also includes facilitating more direct peer-to-peer connections within the early phases of brain injury recovery to help TBI survivors and caregivers benefit from the experience of others who have walked a similar path. We also recognize the need to build medical provider and public awareness about the specific needs of individuals living with acquired brain injuries and are exploring ways where we might help support this expansion within our local
communities.
Many people living with TBI have sensory (vision, hearing), communication and cognitive processing issues. We are currently engaged in an active project to determine how to provide specific accommodations and supports to our members so we make sure that everyone can fully engage in meetings and group activities.
